Georgia Gwizzlies News Release
Macon, Georgia-The Georgia Gwizzlies have a story or two to tell. On Friday December 5th the team open up on the road against the Nashville Broncs to mark the 5th season the team have been in business in minor league pro basketball. Owner Embry Malone says he has seen witnessed and experienced a lot in the minors the past years. Facts back his claims. According to Wikipedia and a few other publications Embry Malone brought the ABA to the state of Georgia in February 2004 as the Gwinnett Gwizzlies. The fall of that year Quinton Townsend tried out for the Gwizzlies and was cut the very first day by the Gwizzlies and it probably was career changing for the League now CEO.'I walked in the Life college gym and seen this guy trying to run down the court and I told my then coach Brook Steppe to cut this guy so he can go out and get in shape or pursue something else' states the Gwizzlies owner. After a few years absent from the ABA the organization returned last season in Middle Georgia. The team can proudly say over the years they have promoted ballplayers first, ownership second. This has resulted in over 40 ballplayers who one time wore a proud Gwizzlies uniform an offer to play overseas. Recently Malone Alma mater Pepperdine University of Malibu, California alumni chapter had discussions about a story about Malone and the team. The team also was the first team outside of the NBA to have an annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday basketball game. Malone says his only disappoint over the past 5 has been that he has not had one of his former players on an NBA roster as of yet. 'I do this year in and year out for the love of the game, help ballplayers and I have no desire to ever be in the NBA ranks says Malone.
