American Basketball Association Chief Operating Officer Quentin Townsend has been arrested on criminal charges of fraud and forgery. The arrest arrives in the wake of a civil suit filed by Jayhawk Sports in September, alleging that Townsend defrauded potential investors in a scheme that would have brought an NBA Development League team to the Atlanta metro area.

Townsend was arrested Friday afternoon while attending a divorce hearing in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He was awaiting transfer to Forsyth County where the criminal charges were filed.

The civil suit alleged that Townsend tried to obtain a D-League team for the city of Atlanta, but was turned down by the league. Townsend then allegedly continued to solicit funds for the franchise from Jayhawk Sports in the amount of $200,000. The suit further alleges Townsend forged documents claiming that the D-League was still interested and actively pursuing Townsend and his group, saying they came from the NBA.
