Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay F.C. remained unbeaten with another point on Sunday night, rallying back from two different deficits to secure a result against Rhode Island FC at Cardinale Stadium. As a result, Carlos Guzmán has earned a spot on USL Championship's Team of the Week for Week 3, while Walmer Martínez has claimed a spot on the Team of the Week bench.
Guzmán opened his Crisp-and-Kelp goalscoring account over the weekend with a game-tying goal in the dying moments of the first half. Named the Club's Man of the Match on Sunday night, Guzmán finished the contest with five clearances, five tackles and two interceptions. In addition, he won 17 of his 18 duels on the night.
Martínez earned a spot in the league's top-18 this week with a performance that featured his first assist of the season - a perfectly-placed ball off of a set piece that allowed Guzmán to push it into the bottom-left corner of the net after weaving his way to the front of the crowded box. In total, the Santa Cruz native won nine duels and recorded three tackles, two clearances, and two interceptions.
