Chicago Storm News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (Feb. 20, 2009) - Former Chicago Fire midfielder Diego Gutierrez visits the Chicago Storm game on March 22 in support of the anti-malaria effort "Nothing but Nets."
Gutierrez, a native of Bogota, Colombia, is joined by his wife Ginna in the grassroots campaign that raises money to buy mosquito netting for children and families in impoverished African nations.
"The fact that this terrible disease is preventable and treatable is something we found astonishing -- that there are children out there dying, every 30 seconds because they don't have a simple bed net over their heads," Gutierrez wrote on the Nothing But Nets web site. "As a soccer player, nets play an essential role in my life too, but it does not mean life or death."
When the Storm host Detroit on March 22, Gutierrez will participate in the first ball ceremony, then sign autographs for a limited time on the concourse following the game. All proceeds from the Cricket Ball Toss at halftime will be donated to Nothing But Nets.
The Chicago Storm professional soccer team is in its fourth season, and first in the new Xtreme Soccer League. They play at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling the Storm office at 1-866-STORM81 (1-866-786-7681).
