Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Derek Gustafson stopped all 29 shots he faced and Julian Talbot scored the only goal Alaska would need in a 1-0 shutout of Long Beach in front of 5,406 Sunday at Sullivan Arena.

Alaska has gone unbeaten in its last 11 games (9-0-2) and has not lost at home since January 5, going 17-0-1 over that stretch. The Aces increased their lead in the race for the Brabham Cup to 10 points over Las Vegas and Bakersfield, both of whom were idle.

After a scoreless first period in which the Ice Dogs out-shot Alaska 10-7, Talbot scored the game's only goal on a rebound at 13:57 of the middle frame, the seventh power play tally of the series for the Aces. Julian's older brother, Joe, and Kimbi Daniels assisted on the goal. Gustafson and the penalty-killing unit protected the lead, erasing a five-minute power play at the tail end of the second period and another two minutes to close out the game.

Gustafson joins four other ECHL goalies with a league-high five shutouts on the season. Alaska has beaten Long Beach six straight times this season, including three one-goal decisions. The Aces finished the series 7-for-19 on the power play, while the Ice Dogs went 1-for-15.

Alaska (44-13-4) will play its next eight games on the road, beginning with three games in three nights next weekend at Fresno and Long Beach Friday and Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ADT, then back to Fresno for a Sunday start at 4:00 p.m. ADT. 2007 Kelly Cup playoff tickets will go on sale to the general public March 26. Tickets for the final regular season games at Sullivan Arena against the Utah Grizzlies on April 4, 6, and 7 are now available at participating Fred Meyer locations, by calling 258-ACES, or by logging onto www.alaskaaces.com.
