Cedar Rapids Rampage News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Rampage (1-9) have acquired reigning MASL Rookie of the Year Gordy Gurson (5'6", forward) from the St. Louis Ambush. Gurson comes to Cedar Rapids to finish his second MASL campaign. Gurson has been signed to a two-year deal to keep him in Cedar Rapids through the 2016-17 season with a club option for a third season in 2017-18.
Leading the Ambush in points, Gurson will now don the Rampage blue and yellow having notched 18 points (16 goals, two assists) while appearing in nine games for St. Louis this season.
"I really like what Cedar Rapids brings to this league," Gurson reflected. "They have a great following and I'm excited to be part of this organization."
Gurson began his professional soccer career last season for the MASL's now-defunct Seattle Impact. While in Seattle, Gurson recorded 48 points (36 goals, 12 assists) through 13 games for the Impact. After Seattle ceased operations mid-season, Gurson was traded to St. Louis, where he went on to score 16 points (10 goals, 6 assists) in 10 games. In addition to 2014-15 MASL Rookie of the Year honors, Gurson was also named All-League second team in addition to being named to the All-Rookie Team.
In addition to Gurson, Cedar Rapids has also come to terms with forward Blake Ordell, midfielder Bobby Hurwitz, and goalkeeper Jeff Richey, all seasoned MASL veterans.
Ordell, Hurwitz and Richey all come to Cedar Rapids after playing for St. Louis last season. Along with the signings, the Rampage have activated defender Kevin Jackson, who's been on the team's injured reserve list since training camp.
Gurson and company will make their Rampage debut this weekend as the team hosts their second back-to-back series of the season. On Friday night (January 15), Cedar Rapids will take on the Harrisburg Heat while on Saturday, January 16, they will face off against the Syracuse Silver Knights. Both games will be held at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids and will begin at 7:05 p.m.
