
Gulls Win Barn Burner over Plymouth

NEWPORT, R.I. - Newport (15- 17) picked up an important win over the first place Plymouth Pilgrims (19- 14) on Monday night in a 10-9 offensive output. Dalton Reed led the way for the Gulls going 5-5 with two home runs and six RBI while Logan Harvey tallied his first homer of the season in the bottom of the second. Tyler Mattison picked up a no-decision for Newport pitching six innings surrendering four hits and two runs.
Newport raced off to a 7-0 lead in the fifth before eventually giving up nine unanswered runs including a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth off of Nathan Wrighter to make it 9-8. The Gulls answered with two runs in the bottom half of the eighth including a Dalton Reed solo-home run to tie the game.
Nathan Wrighter bounced back to shut the door in the ninth inning earning his second win of the season. Cole Solesky took the loss for the Pilgrims, giving up seven runs in five innings pitched.
Newport travels to Danbury, Conn. to take on the Westerners (14- 20) on Tuesday night before heading back to Cardines Field to face Plymouth for the final time this season on Military Appreciation Night.
