San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â The Gulls are looking to provide relief for those affected by the fires that have burned throughout San Diego County. All fans in attendance for the home opener on Saturday also have their chance to contribute.
Some 2000 special Gulls "Ice Down the Fire" t-shirts will be on sale throughout the game. All of the net proceeds will be donated to the San Diego Chapter of the American Red Cross, specifically for the San Diego fire victims.
The Gulls are also starting their "Saves for San Diego" program, which will extend through the Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 games. For every save the Gulls make, a monitory donation will be sent to the American Red Cross.
"We really feel strongly about contributing to the San Diego fire victim relief fund," Public and Media Relations Director Tera Black said. "About 80% of our fan base lives in the areas affected by the fires. The San Diego community has been incredible in their support for the Gulls, so it's our turn to give back."
The Gulls will also officially close out their West Coast Hockey League tenure with the unveiling of the 2002-03 Taylor Cup championship banner, scheduled to take place during the pre-game ceremony. San Diego beat the Fresno Falcons in Game 7 of the Taylor Cup Finals last season to capture its fifth title in eight years.
The first 10,000 fans will also get their very own pair of Gulls Thunder Sticks, courtesy of 4-Lawyer.com. And in honor of Halloween, it's going to be a blackout...so fans are encouraged to dress in ALL BLACK to show their Halloween spirit! Kids 14 and under can wear their costumes and "Trick-or-Treat" on the outer concourse during the game! And, your favorites from KGB 101.5 FM will be there to keep everyone entertained all game long.
The home opener will be televised live on Channel 4 San Diego, starting at 7 p.m. All games can be heard on KPOP 1360AM with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play.
