FORT MYERS, FL (July 7, 2009)- The Florida State League announced today that Fort Myers Miracle pitcher Deolis Guerra has been named Pitcher of the Week for June 29-July 5, 2009.

The 20-year old Puerta Ordaz, Venezuelan native pitched his best game of the year on Friday, July 3 in a 2-1 victory over Charlotte.

Guerra, in his third season in the Florida State League, took a no-hitter into the eighth and ended up striking out six over 7 1/3 innings, while only walking one.

He has won two of his last three starts and is 6-8 on the year with a 4.69 ERA. His next start will be tomorrow night when the Miracle host the Sarasota Reds at 7:05 p.m.

Guerra, a Futures Game All-Star in 2007, was traded with outfielder Carlos Gomez and fellow right-handers Philip Humber and Kevin Mulvey from the New York Mets to the Twins for Johan Santana in January 2008. He was 11-9 with a 5.47 ERA in 26 appearances for the Miracle last season after spending 2007 with the Mets' FSL affiliate in St. Lucie.
