Grubbs named TL Executive of the Year

ROUND ROCK, Texas â Round Rock Express Assistant General Manager Derrick Grubbs has been named the 2004 Texas League Executive of the Year.
"This is obviously a tremendous honor," Grubbs said. "First, I'd like to thank Jay Miller for nominating me. I know the people that have earned this honor and it's a pretty elite group. To be included in that is very special.
"The best thing is that this is a reflection of the success of the whole organization."
Grubbs, in his fifth season with the team, is in charge of all in-game entertainment, promotions and the Express' award-winning program. He is credited with creating the unique atmosphere at The Dell Diamond and helping Round Rock attract over three million fans in the team's five year history.
Grubbs originally began working in athletics with Texas A&M University, his alma mater. He began working in baseball when he joined the Wichita Wranglers in 1990. He's also worked for the El Paso Diablos (1992), Houston Astros (1993-94), New Orleans Zephyrs (1995-97) and the Charlotte Knights (1998-99).
Grubbs is the second Round Rock front office member to receive the award. General Manager Jay Miller earned the honor in 2000 and 2003.
