October 10, 2002 - NBA G League (G League)
Greenville Groove News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 10, 2002) – Stephanie Ready has always had an affinity for basketball and a long-standing interest in the business of sports television. Next week those worlds collide as Ready takes her first turn in front of the NBA-TV cameras.

Ready, the assistant coach of the Greenville Groove of the National Basketball Development League, is set to work her first assignment as a contributor for NBA-TV when the Washington Wizards and Denver Nuggets meet in exhibition play Tuesday at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C.

Vice President of Series Programming and NBA TV Steve Herbst said Ready's role hasn't been finalized to date, but said she will do occasional reports and features for the network throughout the season, including NBDL features. Her first assignment will be a feature on North Carolina being a hotbed state for basketball at every level.

"I've always had an interest in television, and it goes without saying how I feel about basketball. Those are the common threads that have brought me to this," Ready said. "Most people don't know this, but I have done a little television in the past."

Ready handled sideline reporting duties for the 2000 Black College All-Star Basketball Games, interviewing NBA scouts and other basketball notables in attendance at both the men's and women's games.

As a junior high school student (1987-88) she was the co-host of News Bag, a weekly children's show produced by WTTG-TV, the Washington, D.C. FOX affiliate. Ready was one of four co-hosts for the regional production.

Ready and Milton Barnes, the former head coach of the NBDL team in Greenville, led the Groove to the league's first-ever championship last season. Greenville swept the North Charleston Lowgators in the 2002 NBDL Finals. She is currently the assistant coach to former NBA great and current Groove head coach Tree Rollins.

Greenville, along with the remainder of the eight-team NBDL, opens the 2002-03 season Nov. 15. The Groove tips off the season by entertaining the Columbus Riverdragons at the BI-LO Center in Greenville. Other season-opening matchups include Huntsville at Roanoke, Asheville at Fayetteville and North Charleston at Mobile.
