Fresno, CA- The Fresno Grizzlies are excited to begin the third year of their developmental reading program "Wild About Reading." The program's goal is to educate students about the importance and excitement of reading. The program will kick off tomorrow at 2:00 PM at Tarpey Elementary School in Clovis.

"This is our most important Community Relations program," said Grizzlies C.E.O. Pat Filippone. "The ‘Wild About Reading' program is an excellent way to get children behind the importance of reading, while using the Grizzlies as a motivating and rewarding tool to get that message across. We have been delighted to reward local children with Grizzlies tickets."

The "Wild About Reading" program has grown from 32,000 participating students to over 50,000 participating students in only its third year. The program spans across the Central Valley and offers an exciting way for students to interact with and engage the necessary dynamics of reading.

The Grizzlies' mascot, Wild Thing, and members of the Grizzlies' front office take part in an assembly where they act out the book "Wild Thing, Fresno's Very Own Grizzly Bear." Upon completion of the assembly, bookmarks are distributed to each participating classroom. The five-week program encourages students to read 10 books, appropriate to their reading level, to earn two free tickets to a designated Grizzlies home game.
