The Gateway Grizzlies set four franchise records Sunday night in a 25-1 win over the Lake Erie Crushers in the finale of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark. The Grizzlies hammered a team-record eight home runs, including a record five in the seventh inning. The 25 runs is also a club record for the most runs scored in a game. The 24-run margin of victory is also a new team record.
Gateway (10-6) scored nine times in the first inning and never trailed. They scored eight times in the seventh and five more times in the eighth inning.
Lake Erie (6-9) scored a single, unearned, run in the fifth inning.
Seven different Grizzlies players connected on home runs on Sunday night.
Jareck West homered twice, including an eighth-inning grand slam. West finished 4 for 6 with five RBIs. Justin Baum was 2 for 5 with a homer and five RBIs. Baum extended his team-leading hitting streak to 11 games. Breck Draper was 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Draper is hitting .400 (6 for 15) with three home runs and 11 RBIs over his last four games. Toby Davis was 3 for 6 with a home run and four RBIs. Brandon Peters, Logan Parker and Charlie Lisk each homered in the win for the Grizzlies.
Mark Brackman (1-1) earned the win pitching seven innings in the start. Brackman allowed just the run, which was unearned. He did not walk a hitter and struck out five. Nick Walters and Jake Shafer each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The Grizzlies, and the Frontier League take Monday off. Gateway begins a three-game series in Washington (Pa.) Tuesday night. It is the start of a six-game road trip. First pitch Tuesday is 6:05 pm, central time.
