
Grizzlies Set for Team USA Baseball

Gastonia, NC- The Gastonia Grizzlies are set to take on Team USA on June 30th in Gastonia for the first time in the team's ten year history. Last season the game scheduled for July 12th was rained out.
The matchup on June 30th will be the seventh game of the season for Team USA as they have they been playing exhibitions against teams in the New England College Baseball League. Gastonia will be there last stop before coming back to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park where they will host Japan.
"With the energy that Gastonia has shown for this game, USA Baseball is honored to play against the Grizzlies at Sims Legion Park, said Team USA General Manager, Eric Campbell.
USA Baseball uses the national team to showcase the best American baseball in the country. Many of the players will be drafted in the first-round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Former players include 2010 #1 overall pick Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg and a list of MLB All-Stars including Mark Teixeira, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Giambi, Mark McGwire, and 2008 American League MVP Dustin Pedroia.
Team USA's 2011 roster includes college stars Christian Walker from South Carolina and Nolan Fontana from University of Florida.
"Hosting Team USA has been one of my top goals since joining the Grizzlies," said Jesse Cole. "The team features the top players in the country and the fans that come out will be guaranteed to see some future Major League stars."
