LOVES PARK, IL-The Gateway Grizzlies rallied for three runs on four hits with two outs in the ninth inning Monday night, but it wasn't enough. They dropped game one of a three-game series to the Rockford RiverHawks 7-5 at Road Ranger Stadium.
The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies (12-13) got ninth inning RBIs from Mike Breyman, Manny Paula and John Alonso. Alonso was on second base when the game ended. The Grizzlies stranded 13 men on the bases Monday night.
The RiverHawks (12-13) got a home run from Chris Raber in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. They scored four in the inning to go ahead 5-1.
Breyman drove in three runs with two hits and a sacrifice fly. He was 2-4. Alonso was 3-5 with an RBI. Paula was 1-3 with an RBI. Charlie Lisk was 3-4 with two runs.
Matt Falk (1-4) suffered the loss going 5.1 innings. He allowed five runs on four hits. He walked six and struck out four.
The Grizzlies and the âHawks will meet in game two of the series Tuesday evening. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
