CRESTWOOD, Ill. - Michael Johnson recorded four hits and the Gateway Grizzlies held on for a 10-9 win against the Windy City ThunderBolts Monday night at Standard Bank Stadium.

The game was called after eight innings due to heavy rain.

Gateway (41-28) won the series and completed their road trip with a 4-2 record. Gateway has now won three of their last four road series and three of their last four games.

Gateway picked up 15 hits on offense with Johnson recording a team-high four. Johnson went 4-for-5 with a double, triple and five runs batted in.

Windy City (25-43) scored the first run of the game in the first inning on a Ryan Tufts RBI single against Gateway starting pitcher Tucker Jensen.

The Windy City lead was brief as Gateway scored five runs on six hits in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead. Josh Adams, Madison Beaird and TJ Bennett all picked up RBI singles while Johnson drove in two runs on a single.

Bennett drove in his second run of the game on a single in the top of the fourth to give Gateway a 6-1 lead. Windy City added a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Garrett Carey RBI groundout.

Windy City and Gateway both pushed across runs in the sixth inning. Johnson picked up an RBI double for the Grizzlies and a run scored on a wild pitch for the ThunderBolts.

A three-run seventh for Gateway pushed their lead to 10-3. Ben Waldrip drove in a run on a single and Johnson collected a two-run triple.

Windy City scored six unanswered runs with two in the seventh and four in the eighth to come within one run.

Windy City had runners on second and third with one out in the eighth inning before Richard Barrett struck out the final two batters of the inning just before the rain delay that eventually completed the game.

Jensen (7-2) collected the win after working six and two thirds innings, allowing five runs with a season-high eight strikeouts. Barrett picked up his second straight save and 13th of the season.

After an off day Tuesday, Gateway begins a six-game homestand Wednesday night with game one against the Normal CornBelters. First pitch is set for 7:05.
