FRESNO, Ca. - The Ports mustered just three hits and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position as their losing streak reached five games with an 8-1 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies in the series finale at Chukchansi Park on Sunday evening.

The Grizzlies (55-35) got started right away in the bottom of the first inning against Stockton starter Dheygler Gimenez. Adael Amador walked to start the frame and after a stolen base reached third when Benny Montgomery lined a single to left to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Gimenez nearly got out of the jam by inducing a pop out and striking out Cuba Bess, but Yorvis Torrealba reached on an error by Ports third baseman Jhoan Paulino allowing Amador to score from third base to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead.

Fresno was back at it in the bottom of the second, as Ben Sems doubled down the left field line and AJ Lewis singled to right to put runners on the corners with nobody out. After a strikeout, Amador drove in Sems with a single to right field and Montgomery cleared the bases with a booming double off the wall in center to give the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead.

The Ports (32-58) got their lone run in the top of the fifth against Grizzlies' starter Jarrod Cande. With Alexander Campos at second base and one out, Mariano Ricciardi hit a drive over the head of Montgomery in center field that bounced over the wall for a ground-rule double to get the Ports on the board and trim the Fresno advantage to 4-1.

The Grizzlies, however, quickly ansered back in the bottom of the fifth. With Torreablba on third base and two outs, Lewis hit a bloop single to left center to make it 5-1, increasing the Grizzly lead to four runs again.

Fresno put the game out of reach with a three-run eighth. Bryant Quijada doubled off Ports' reliever Calvin Coker to start the frame and scored from second on a two-out single up the middle by Yanquiel Fernandez. After Bess roped a ground-rule double to center putting runners on second and third, two runs came home to score on an errant throw to first on a ground ball to Paulino making it 8-1.

Cooper Uhl reached second base for the Ports in the top of the ninth but Stockton failed to drive him home against Fresno reliever Angel Chivilli to end the ballgame.

Cande (4-2) got the win for the Grizzlies allowing just one run on four hits over six innings, while Gimenez (0-3) took the loss for Stockton surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits over four innings while striking out six and walking four.

After an off-day on Monday, the Ports continue their road trip with a six-game series against the Storm at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, the two clubs' first meeting of the season. Grant Judkins is scheduled to start for the Ports in the series opener with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 pm.
