Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
The Ohio Valley Greyhounds improved to (6-5) Saturday night in Huntsville, AL by slipping past the Tennessee Valley Raptors by a 22-20 count. The win came with the Greyhounds playing without their entire defensive line from the previous week, and the team's entire regular receiving corps. The Hounds were also minus defensive back Bop White and James Taylor. Still the Greyhounds persevered and made enough plays to get the job done on the road.
Ohio Valley received a solid night again from its defense. The Hounds were able to piece together a fine effort shutting the Raptors out four two of the game's four quarters and limiting the hosts to only 12 first downs. The Greyhounds scored first when quarterback Antoine Taylor sneaked into the endzone from three-yards away, John Wehrle missed the conversion kick ending scoring in the first frame and leaving the Hounds up 6-0.
In the second quarter Tennessee Valley started to flex their muscle scoring twice in a five-minute span following a 31-yard Wehrle field goal that put Ohio valley up 10-0. Quarterback Chris Gunn would do most of the damage tossing a 10-yard score to Luke McCardle and then getting into the endzone himself on a two-yard run. Tennessee Valley briefly enjoyed a 16-14 lead but that was erased when Taylor found newly acquired receiver Mo Little on a 17-yard scoring pass with little time remaining in the first half. Wehrle's PAT put the Hounds back up at the break 16-14.
The two teams battled through a scoreless third quarter and the deciding score would come with just 52 seconds remaining in the contest. Trailing 20-16 with time winding down running back Troy Albea scored on a two-yard run giving Ohio Valley the score at 22-20. Tennessee Valley would have one more opportunity but were unable to convert. Placekicker Steven Lee would miss a fourth down field goal attempt sealing the win for the visitors.
Up next for the Hounds is a two-week vacation. For the next two weekends Ohio Valley will be off, and if any team needs the rest it is them. The team will reconvene the week before the next home game which is set for July 2 at Wesbanco Arena where they will host the same Tennessee Valley Raptors. By that time the team will hope to have the following players available again, as they make their way back from injury:Willie Austin, Jay Williams,Greg Muckerson.
Also back to the lineup are expected to be: Mark Holtzman, Andre Parker, Eddie Bynes, James Taylor, Bop White.
