Greyhounds Sign Seven Players

The Ohio Valley Greyhounds today announced the signing of (6) five players to their roster. One will be returning for his second season with the Hounds and the other six will be playing for the Greyhounds for the first time in 2007. The returning player is standout, defensive safety David Dunham. The new players signed are wide receiver Demetrius Wilbert, defensive back Steven Chester, defensive lineman Darryl Green, offensive lineman Terrance Hall, defensive back Jon Quesada, and quarterback Mario Fernandez.

David Dunham - Returning for his second season with the Greyhounds is defensive back David Dunham at 6' 2" 220 lbs.. Dunham is a native of Palmetto, Florida and was a starter at Free Safety for the Clemson Tigers during his college career. Dunham joined the Greyhounds in 2006 in midseason and made an immediate impact6 on the defensive side of the ball. Dunham played in 7 games in 2006 and finished with 29 solo tackles and 16 assisted tackles for a total of 37 tackles ranking him fourth on the team. He also had 2 interceptions one of which was returned for a touchdown. Dunham earned the nickname at Clemson as "The Hitman" due to his extremely hard-hitting style of defense. Dunham had the distinction of having the ESPN "Hit of the Year" for the bone jarring tackle that he put on the Boston College quarterback during the Clemson - Boston College game in 2005. That hit was shown dozens of times nationally on all of the major networks. Dunham is expected to be a leader this year in the Greyhound secondary.

Demetrius Wilbert - New to the Hounds this season at wide receiver is Demetrius Wilbert at 5' 11" 174 lbs. and is a native of Washington DC. Wilbert was a three year starter at McAlester High School in Oklahoma and rushed for over four thousand yards in those three years and was ranked number 2 in the state as a sophomore. His senior year he was 5 A Player of the Year and also Optimus Player of the Year. He was chosen on the All-State Team and he played in the Oil bowl when Texas played Oklahoma. He was also named 5 A Offensive Player of the Year. Rivals.com ranked Wilter #6 running back in 2002. Following college he played two years of semi-pro football. Wilbert will bring more lightning fast speed to the Hound receiving corps this season.

Steven Chester - Joining the Greyhounds for his first season is defensive back Steven Chester at 5' 10" 200 lbs. Chester is a native of Decatur, Georgia and is capable of playing on both sides of the ball. In high school in Georgia he was named Offensive Player of the Year and at Hanes College he made 2nd team All-American as a defensive back. He transferred to Benedict College and was named 1st team All SIAC as a defensive back. He finished his college career with 22 interceptions. He them went on to play for the Florence Phantoms where he played both defensive back and quarterback throwing for 6 touchdowns and running for 3. At the defensive back position he finished with 6 interceptions and 81 tackles. Chester will offer the Hounds a lot of versatility both on offense and defense.

Darryl Green - Darryl Green will be coming to the Greyhounds in 2007 as a defensive lineman at 6' 6' 270 lbs. Green is a native of Detroit, Michigan and played his college football at Grambling State University and has 1 year of Pro experience having played with the Detroit Seminoles. As a high school offensive lineman he was named Most Valuable player his senior year and was named Rookie of the Year while playing for the Detroit Seminoles. Green is expected to add strength and experience to the defensive line.

Terrance Hall - New to the Hounds organization for 2007 is offensive lineman Terrence Hall. Hall is 6' 6" and weighs in at 315 lbs. Hall is a native of Richmond, Virginia. Hall has a year of Pro experience with the Virginia Saints and is expected to play a big role on the offensive line to insure an effective running game for the Hounds this season.

Jon Quesada - Jon Quesada will play his first season with the Greyhounds as a defensive back. He is 6' 2" 215 lbs. and is a native of Union City New Jersey. While playing high school football in New Jersey he earned All-County and All-State rankings and was selected to the Super 100 New Jersey Team. Quesada played his collegiate career at the University of Maine where he was a four year starter and was named Rookie of the Year in 2002. He also excelled as a special teams player while at the University of Maine.

Mario Fernandez - Joining the Greyhounds at quarterback is 6' 6" 235 lbs Mario Fernandez. Fernandez hails from Hialeah, Florida and was the starting quarterback for Hialeah Senior High School from 1997 to 2000. His senior year he was named 2nd team All-County at quarterback. He passed for over 1,000 yards. Mario played for Florida Atlantic University under Howard Schellenberger.

"We have been signing some very talented players at the skill positions as well as the offensive and defensive line", said Ervin Bryson, Greyhounds Head Coach. "The players we have been signing will give us the speed, size and experience we need to play at a championship level in the United Indoor Football league. Many of our players this year are able to play multiple positions which will give us plenty of depth as we move through the season. I believe that we will have the talent and depth we are wanting as we approach the start of the season on March 24th against Lexington at WesBanco Arena", continued Bryson.

The Ohio Valley Greyhounds also announced they will be holding their 2nd 2007 Football Try-Outs on Saturday, February 24, 2007 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The location of the Try-outs will be at the Ohio University Eastern Campus in the Sports Center behind the Main Building. The facility is located just off I-70 - Exit 213 & US Route 40 just west of the 213 exit. To be eligible for the Try-Outs you must be 18 years of age or older. Participants in the Try-Outs will be tested for speed, strength, and football skills. There is a $30.00 try-out fee which will be refunded to any player signed to a Greyhound Contract. If you wish to Try-Out, plan to arrive at the Ohio University Eastern Sports Center by 8:45 am and bring indoor running shoes If you are interested in Trying Out, would like additional information, or would like to pre-register, simply call Coach Ervin Bryson at the Ohio Valley Greyhound office at 304-232-1918 Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Training camp for the Greyhounds begins March 9, 2007. The Greyhounds 9th season opens Saturday March 24, 2006 with a Home Opener against the Lexington Horsemen at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling with kickoff at 7:00 pm.

The Greyhound organization has announced that at all home games this year, all Greyhound ticket holders will be welcome Free of Charge to attend a Collegiate or High School Indoor Lacrosse match which will take place from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at WesBanco Arena prior to each Hound home game. Lacrosse has become the fastest growing sport in the country today and like indoor football is a phenomenal spectator sport. Speed, skill, strength and toughness are just a few of the qualities that make this sport the fastest game on two feet. Indoor Lacrosse is filled with amazing passes, bruising hits, outstanding goaltending, stunning passing, and poetic grace and agility.

After the Lacrosse game ends at 5:30, fans can view the Greyhounds and the opposing team goes through their warm-ups prior to kick-off. Also the Arena vestibule will feature activities for the entire family including top-notch, live entertainment from around the region, a pre-game pep rally, fun play activities for the kids, face painting for adults & children, photo-ops with Blitz the Mascot and other special guests, and lots of unannounced surprises prior to the 7:00 pm Greyhounds kick-off.
