Greyhounds Seek Perfect Record at Half-way Mark

May 7, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release

The Ohio Valley Greyhounds bring their 26-game win streak to Fort Wayne tonight, where the Freedom look to topple the Greyhounds' "dictatorship" over the rest of the league.

Last year, Fort Wayne gave Ohio Valley their toughest series of the year, losing by a combined total of 19 points in the two games (lowest total of any two-game series last year). In last year's meeting at Fort Wayne, Quarterbacks Shane Franzer and Antoine Taylor combined for 390 yards passing and eight touchdowns. Taylor's three INTs proved to be costly, as O.V. held on for a 54-41 win.

Last week, the Freedom were stunned by a pesky Evansville team, taking just their third franchise win in a 71-68 nipping of Fort Wayne. Antoine Taylor threw for five TDs in a losing effort.

The Greyhounds hosted Atlantic City for the first time ever last Friday, with the defense not allowing a point until 35 seconds were left in the game. Shane Franzer threw four TD passes as the Hounds won 51-8.

The Series

The Greyhounds lead the series 2-0 after sweeping the regular season home-and-home matchups last year.

O.V. found some of its toughest tests last year against the Freedom, winning by an average margin of under 10 points per contest.

The Hounds held back the expansion Freedom in their first meeting in Fort Wayne last season, winning by a 54-41 count. The Freedom then gave the Greyhounds another run for their money in Wheeling, providing a late charge before falling 48-42 to the defending champions.

Kickoff for the Greyhounds at Ft Wayne can be heard live on 96.5 fm WRKP " Your Celebration Station." Fiends listening around the league can listen to the webcast on www.ohiovalleygreyhounds.com . Broadcast begins at 7:45 EDT.
