Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The creation of the United Football League (UFL), a new four team outdoor league, gives players another opportunity to show off their talent to fans and NFL scouts. All of the executives behind the UFL are former NFL franchise builders starting with UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue, who has over 20 years of NFL experience including a key role in establishing the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars while serving as Vice President of Football Operations.
Two Green Bay Blizzard players have already been invited to UFL camps. Former Blizzard quarterback Chris Greisen has been invited to play for the Florida Tuskers. Greisen has most recently played with the Georgia Force before the AFL decided to discontinue play this past year.
2009 Blizzard defensive lineman Anthony Hoke has also been invited to camp with the Las Vegas Locomotives. Hoke had a strong year with the Blizzard this season finishing with 11.5 sacks and second team All-af2 honors.
Greisen and the Tuskers will be lead by former New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett. The offensive coordinator for the Tuskers will be Jay Gruden who was the head coach for the AFL's Orlando Predators and has coached against Greisen many times over the past couple years.
Hoke and the Locomotives will be coached by Jim Fassel, former New York Giants head coach. Fassel will return to coaching after taking a break from the NFL and spending time as a color analyst on ESPN.
The first UFL game will be played on October 8th when the California Redwoods face off against the Locomotives in Las Vegas. The Tuskers will play two days later on the October 10th and will battle the New York Sentinels at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
