Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Independence Day game between the Greenville Drive and the Greensboro Grasshoppers started with loud fireworks as the Drive's Nathan Hickey blasted a three-run homer in the 1st. Unfortunately for the Drive, it was the hometown Grasshoppers that ultimately prevailed 11-4.
The game stayed 3-0 until the fifth when Hickey again came through with a line drive single to plate Matthew Lugo to make it 4-0. The bottom half was not as kind as the Grasshoppers scored three runs to close the gap to a single run.
The Drive maintained the 4-3 lead until the bottom of the eighth when Greensboro exploded with seven runs. Two homers by Mike Jarvis and Endy Rodriguez were the big blows to put the game out of reach.
Cameron Junker got his fourth win for the Grasshoppers. Recent call-up Joey Stock from Salem was saddled with the loss for the Drive.
Greenville continues the series at Greensboro on Wednesday at 6:30.
