Greensboro Swarm News Release
(Greensboro, NC) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, picked up its fourth-consecutive win in a 133-122 duel over the Windy City Bulls (Chicago Bulls affiliate). The Swarm (6-9) and the Bulls (6-9) draw even in the two games series with one victory each.
Greensboro's Xavier Sneed and Kobi Simmons recorded season-best performances to propel the Swarm on Sunday evening at the Novant Health Fieldhouse. When the game mattered the most, Sneed stepped up for Greensboro and tallied 15 points in the fourth quarter. In total, Sneed racked up a season-high 30 points on an impressive 10-of-12 shooting from the field, which included 7-of-9 from beyond the arc in 29 minutes. His previous game-high was 24 points in the regular season opener against the Long Island Nets on Dec. 27.
Coming off of the bench, Simmons provided a much-needed spark for the Swarm and he also recorded a season-high in points. His 29 points were third-most among all scorers in the contest. Simmons' previous high came against the Lakeland Magic on Jan. 13, where he scored 28 points.
Sunday's game started off in Greensboro's favor, with a 16-point lead following the opening quarter. The Swarm would go on to stretch the lead to 20 points in the second quarter but were quickly countered by the Bulls' offense to end the first half.
Following halftime, Windy City put together a 15-3 run to eventually draw even and surpass Greensboro for the lead. The Bulls saw strong scoring performances from its starters: Carlik Jones (31 points), Marko Simonovic (21 points), Ethan Thompson (19 points) and Malcolm Hill (15 points).
Headed into the final frame, Windy City held a narrow one-point lead. Despite a down third quarter, the Swarm rallied behind Sneed and Isaiah Whaley to reclaim the lead through the finish. Whaley recorded his second straight game with 16 points and earned his second double-double of the season with a game-high 13 rebounds.
Joining Sneed, Simmons and Whaley with double-digit point performances were James Bouknight (19) and Jalen Crutcher (14).
The Swarm will continue its homestand against the Salt Lake City Stars on Wednesday, February 8 against the Salt Lake City Stars (Utah Jazz affiliate) at 7 p.m. ET.
