Augusta GreenJackets News Release
North Augusta, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) fell to the Columbia Fireflies (Kansas City Royals) in both games of a doubleheader on Sunday, April 30th. Columbia (13-8) hit eight home runs off of Augusta (7-13), with Augusta native David Hollie slugging four home runs on the day for the visitors.
The GreenJackets, playing as Los Pavos Salvajes de Augusta (the Augusta Wild Turkeys) as part of Minor League Baseball's COPA De La Diversión program, debuted their new alternate look in both games, presented by the National Wild Turkey Foundation.
In the first game, Columbia jumped on Didier Fuentes (L, 0-2), scoring three runs in the top of the first. That lead would hold for the entire contest, with the Fireflies tacking on six more runs in the third, including a home run from Augusta native David Hollie. The main source of offense for Augusta was a three-run bases clearing double from Jeremy Celedonio, but the bats of the Fireflies proved unstoppable on the day, as they tacked on two more runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 13-4 victory in the opening game.
In game two, Columbia once again scored early and often. Cross Creek High School product David Hollie hit three home runs, bringing him to a four-run performance on the day in front of his family and friends. The GreenJackets got two runs from Ambioris Tavarez in the seventh, but fell by a final of 9-3. Jared Johnson (L, 1-1) took the loss, while Texas Tech product Mack Anglin (W, 1-0) was the winner. Despite the outcome of both games, the atmosphere at SRP Park remained joyous, as the eight game homestand came to a conclusion.
The GreenJackets head on the road to take on the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Chicago White Sox) this coming week, before returning to SRP Park to take on the Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays) the week of May 9th. The series with Charleston will include an Education Day Game presented by SRNS, a STEM T-Shirt Giveaway presented by Aiken Technical College, and more! Full promotional details for the upcoming homestand will be released tomorrow, Monday, May 1st. For tickets, visit greenjacketsbaseball.com.
