Augusta GreenJackets News Release
AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets, in conjunction with the San Francisco Giants, have announced the 2016 Field Staff. Nestor Rojas will rejoin the GreenJackets for his second season as Manager.
Also returning for the 2016 season is Pitching Coach Jerry Cram and Coach Hector Borg. New to the staff is Hitting Coach Doug Clark.
Rojas, 32, managed the 2015 GreenJackets to a 65-73 record. He last played in 2010, splitting time with the Giants Double-A affiliate, Richmond Flying Squirrels, and their Triple-A affiliate, Fresno Grizzlies. He has spent his entire professional career with the Giants, playing in Augusta during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Rojas managed the Arizona Rookie League Giants in 2014.
"Nestor did an excellent job with a young team last year," stated San Francisco Giants Director of Player Development Shane Turner. "His playing days as a catcher taught him how to be a leader and those qualities were seen in the dugout this past season. He will get the chance to manage a young, athletic team in 2016, along with a pitching staff with some arm strength. We look forward to seeing a successful season from the GreenJackets."
Cram returns as Pitching Coach for his second season in Augusta. Cram spent parts of four seasons in the major leagues with the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets. 2016 will be his 16th season in the Giants organization, making stops in San Jose, Salem-Keizer, and Richmond. Under Cram's tutelage in 2015, the GreenJackets pitching staff led the South Atlantic League in fewest Home Runs Allowed (46) and finished second in Strikeouts (1160).
Clark spent the majority of his professional career with the Giants from 1998 - 2005, after being drafted in the 7th Round of the 1998 MLB Amateur Draft. Clark made it to the majors during the 2005 & 2006 seasons. He signed with the Oakland A's and Atlanta Braves, before moving to play for the Korean and Mexican Baseball League. Clark served as the hitting coach for the Arizona Rookie League in 2015.
Borg, also a former GreenJacket, is returning to Augusta as coach. Borg spent three seasons in the Giants system from 2004 - 2006.
Also returning from 2015, rounding out the field staff is Athletic Trainer Gerard Moots.
"We are excited to welcome back Nestor and the entire field staff in 2016," said Augusta GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger. "We are eager to build upon last year and provide the CSRA with fantastic baseball. We thank the Giants for providing us with a first class staff to lead the GreenJackets this season."
The GreenJackets start the 28th consecutive season on professional baseball in Augusta on Thursday, April 14th against the Charleston RiverDogs (NY Yankees).
