Augusta GreenJackets News Release
AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets, in conjunction with the San Francisco Giants, are proud to announce their 2015 roster.
"As we prepare to open the gates for the 2015 season, we are excited to welcome one of the most talented groups of players to ever come through Augusta," said GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger. "The San Francisco Giants have once again shown their commitment to the CSRA with a great group of players that will entertain us all summer long."
Local Jacob Smith will have the opportunity to wear the GreenJackets jersey for the first time in 2014. Smith graduated from North Augusta and continued his career at Campbell University. He pitched in 19 appearances with a 3.61 ERA for the Giants Short Season "A" team Salem-Keizer.
Joining Smith will be seven of the San Francisco Giants top 10 draft picks in 2013. Christian Arroyo (1st Round), Ryder Jones (2nd Round), Daniel Slania (5th Round), Nick Vander Tuig (6th Round), Brandon Bednar (7th Round), Tyler Horan (8th Round) and DJ Snelten (9th Round) highlight a GreenJackets roster that features some of the highest draft picks in recent memory.
Nick Vander Tuig has only thrown 10 innings in his professional career but has one of the best pedigrees of the GreenJackets 2014 roster. Vander Tuig helped lead UCLA to a National Championship in 2013 with a 2-0 record in Omaha and a 0.60 ERA in 15 innings pitched. Vander Tuig left the storied UCLA baseball program after his junior season, where he ranks third in wins in school history, won the second most games in a single-season with 14 and ranked second in school history with 10 postseason appearances.
The GreenJackets will also welcome back three familiar faces back to Lake Olmstead Stadium. Outfielders Shawn Payne and Rafael Rodriguez will join catcher Eric Sim as the lone returners for the 2014 season. Payne earned a spot on the SAL Post-Season All-Star team and was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star for his 2012 performance with the GreenJackets.
