GreenHawks To Host Puerto Rico Tonight
February 13, 2010 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Maryland GreenHawks News Release
ROCKVILLE, MD.With the longest winning streak in the Premier Basketball League this season and the league's best record, the Puerto Rico Capitanes (8-0) look pretty unbeatable at the moment.
The new-look Maryland GreenHawks will try to put an end to this streak and get back on the winning track.
After a record snow blizzard that saw over three feet that hit the Washington Metropolitan area and forcing Maryland to postpone their previous two home games against Vermont (1/30) and Manchester (2/6), the GreenHawks will play their third home game of the season tonight at Thomas S. Wootton High School at 7PM.
"They're coming into our building with a lot of confidence and the best record in the PBL," said GreenHawks forward Byron Mouton. "We're looking to get redemption. It's going to be a fun match up."
This will be the third of four matchups between these two teams of the season with Puerto Rico taking the first two victories at home.
On January 2nd, the strong play Puerto Rico National team players Larry Ayuso (game-high 25 points) and Angelo Reyes led the Capitanes to a 109-100 victory over the GreenHawks. In the win, Reyes led Puerto Rico with 23 points and 20 rebounds.
The following day, the GreenHawks held a six point lead with four minutes to go in the game, but were unable to close the game, falling 99-91. Angelo Reyes had another strong performance for Puerto Rico, recording 34 points and 25 rebounds in the victory.
However, a lot has changed in since the last meeting between these two teams. The GreenHawks have since made a coaching change, signed Derrick Mercer (American University) and Ray "Hops" Cunningham (12.7 ppg and 13 rpg) and this week traded for longtime Nighthawk Randy "White Chocolate" Gill.
Puerto Rico, who will beginning a month long tour in the US and Canada, will be without Angelo Reyes who remains in Puerto Rico to take care of personal issues.
NOTES: This will be Randy Gill's first game for Maryland since 2008.The first 500 fans to enter tonight's GreenHawks game will receive a buy-one-get-one free burrito voucher courtesy of Chipotle.
