
GreenHawks Sign Forward Derick Payne

ROCKVILLE, MD.The Maryland GreenHawks announced today the signing of forward Derick Payne. To make move on the active roster, the team released forward Gordon Klaiber out of his contract.
Payne, who has spent the last season and half with the Buffalo Stampede, is currently the Premier Basketball League's leading scorer, averaging 23 points to go along with six rebounds per game.
During the 2008-09 season, Payne finished seventh in the PBL in scoring at 21.7 ppg to go along with 8.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
"This is a great opportunity for me," said Payne. "I'm looking forward to bringing my interior presence to the GreenHawks and having the chance to play closer to home."
Payne last played a regular season game on January 16 against the GreenHawks where he recorded 25 points and six rebounds in a 124-114 victory.
"We're excited to be adding a quality player like Derick," said GreenHawks General Manager Adam Dantus. "Derick will help us out in the post and bring a physical force that our team was lacking."
Payne will be in uniform when the team hosts the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry this Saturday, February 27 at 7PM.
