Grand slam lifts Brewers over Sox

Helena, MT - Tonight the Great Falls White Sox were defeated the Helena Brewers 6-4 at Kindrick Field in Helena. Matt Nachreiner (0-1) took the loss as he worked two innings out of the bullpen, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks. The win went to Ryan Marrion (2-0), also out of the bullpen for the Brewers, as he worked two innings allowing three runs (1 earned). The save went to David Welch (3) has he worked an inning and a third.

The Sox jumped on the board early in the game as they would get a first inning RBI double from Manny Rodriguez scoring Francisco Hernandez from first base. In the bottom half of the inning the Brewers answered back scoring twice. Charlie Fermaint had an RBI triple, followed by an RBI groundout from Angel Salome to go up 2-1.

In the third inning the Sox took the lead back. Manny Rodriguez hit a two-run homerun estimated at 455 feet to left field. Again the Brewers would answer as they would get a two-run homer of their own from Charlie Fermaint to go back up 4-3.

The Sox jumped back in the lead again in the sixth inning. Helena committed three errors in the inning, allowing three runs to score. The only earned run was an RBI single from Rolondo Acosta.

In the seventh inning, Helena loaded the bases with no outs. Reliever Jay Marshall entered, and allowed the three inherited runners to score. Then with two men out, Brenden Katin hit a grand slam off Marshall to put the Brewers up 10-6.

The Sox cut into the lead in the eighth as they would get RBI hits from Matt Tribble and Francisco Hernandez to make the score 10-8. The Sox loaded the bases in the ninth with one out before Welch got Even Tartaglia to hit into a double play. The Brewers go on to win 10-8

In the game, three Sox had a 4 hit night. Even Tartaglia had 4 singles and a stolen base, Manny Rodriguez had two singles, a double, a homerun and 3 RBI and Javier Castillo had three singles and a double.

Tomorrow night the Sox will play the final game of the three game series in Helena. The starters for the game are: Noe Rodriguez (LHP) for Great Falls and Derek Miller (LHP) for Helena. Game time is at 7:05pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:50.
