Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Blaze QB Tommy Grady and DL Keenan Mace have been recognized for outstanding performances in the team's 83-63 victory over the Cleveland Gladiators, the Arena Football League announced today. Mace was named the Riddell Defensive Player of Week 19, while Grady took home AFL Playmaker of the Week honors.
Against the Gladiators, Grady (6-7, 245, Utah) wrote yet another chapter in an MVP-caliber season. The Blaze signal caller tied a single-game Arena Football League record with 12 touchdown throws in the contest, as he completed 25-of-34 passes for 291 yards.
Grady has already littered the record books with his name, shattering all-time single-season League marks for touchdown passes (137) and completions (483). With one game left on the regular season schedule, he's also on pace to break AFL records for passing yards and attempts. Through 17 games, Grady has hit on 483-of-701 attempts (68.9%) for 5,579 yards with 137 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He's added 62 yards with seven more scores on 38 carries.
On the other side of the ball, Mace (6-3, 300, Lindenwood) put his raw power on display from the nose guard position. The massive interior lineman bullied opposing pass protectors while notching 5.5 total tackles with 2.0 sacks for 14 yards in losses.
As the centerpiece in the Blaze defense, Mace's production has been invaluable. In just 10 games in 2012, he's delivered 17.0 total tackles with 7.0 sacks for minus 43 yards and 9.0 stops for losses totaling 67 yards. Mace has also forced one fumble and recovered another.
The Utah Blaze (12-5) closes out the regular season on the road against the Philadelphia Soul (14-3) this Sunday, July 22nd. Utah has already secured a postseason berth and can clinch the West Division with a victory over the Soul. Kickoff from the Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia, PA) is scheduled for 4:05 PM MT.
