Chiefs forward Michael Grabner will return to Spokane after attending training camp with the Vancouver Canucks and is expected to be in the line-up on Saturday when Spokane travels to Tri-City. The 19- year-old was Vancouver's first round selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and appeared in three exhibition games, scoring one goal.
"We are excited to have Michael back in the line-up and practicing with the team," Chiefs Head Coach Bill Peters said. "His experience at camp will benefit him individually as well as the team collectively."
The 6'0", 170 pound forward led the Chiefs in goals last season with 36, tied for 10th in the WHL, and finished the year with 50 points while appearing in 67 games. In the final 26 games of the season, the Villach, Austria native scored 23 goals and 32 points.
Grabner was the Chiefs first round selection in the 2004 CHL Import Draft and scored 13 goals and 24 points in 58 games in his rookie season of 2004-05. After overcoming a shoulder injury to begin the season, Grabner represented Austria on the under 20 National Team at the 2005 Under-20 World Championship Division I in Great Britain.
The Chiefs will travel to Tri-City on Saturday to take on the Americans at 7:00. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:30 with KJRB 790 the Fan with Comcast Hockey Tonight.
Spokane will open the home portion of the regular season on Saturday, October 7th on Bud Light Opening Night and Magnet Schedule Giveaway presented by the Black Book by Hagadone Directories.
