Gowan and Porter Win Weekly Honors

FRESNO, Calif. â Fresno Falcons goaltender Mark Gowan and right winger Kris Porter were named WCHL Goaltender of the Week and Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 20 â 26.
Gowan wins Goaltender of the Week for the second time in three weeks after helping the Falcons to three victories against the Anchorage Aces last week. He posted a 3-0-0 record, 2.00 goals against average and 92.8% save percentage up in Anchorage, running his totals to 9-3-1, 3.08 and 89.0% for the season.
Porter also collects his second weekly award from the league this season after tallying eight assists in the club's three victories against the Aces. His week was highlighted by a six-assist performance during a 9-2 win last Saturday. The six points are the most ever recorded in a single game by a Falcons player. The reigning Taylor Cup Playoff MVP and sixth-leading scorer in the league leads the team in goals (18), assists (26) and points (44).
Falcons captain Jason Weaver earned his third league accolade in four weeks by nabbing an Honorable Mention for Player of the Week. Weaver tied a team record with four goals during the 9-2 win on Saturday and currently leads the WCHL in +/- rating at +25.
The clean sweep of the WCHL's weekly awards marks the third time this season Falcons players have won Player of the Week, Goaltender of the Week and added an Honorable Mention. Porter, Weaver and goaltender Terry Friesen were honored for the week of Oct. 14 â 20, while Weaver, Gowan and Friesen were each recognized for the week of Jan. 6 â 12.
Fresno opens a six-game home stand tonight against the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 7 p.m. before hosting the Ice Dogs again on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for all three games at the Selland Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
