Amarillo Gorillas News Release

[Amarillo, TX]- The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the club has signed University of Alabama-Huntsville forwards Keith Rowe and Craig Bushey. The two forwards join what has turned out to be a successful pipeline from Alabama-Huntsville to the Gorillas. Other Gorillas who have come from the school include Tyler Butler and Darren Curry.

Rowe, a 5'11'', 190-pound forward from Livonia, Michigan, played four years for the University of Alabama-Huntsville. In those four seasons he compiled 21 goals, 26 assists, 47 points, and 196 penalty minutes in 130 games. Rowe also played last season for the Gorillas in their playoff run and tallied five points (1G, 4A) and 26 penalty minutes in seven games.

"I'm really happy to come back." Rowe said, "I had a great experience in the playoffs with the Gorillas last season and I got along with the guys on the team really well. I'm excited about this upcoming season."

Head Coach Joe Ferras said of the signing of Rowe, "We were very fortunate to bring Keith in as our amateur for the playoff run. He created an immediate impact and was one of our best players in the playoffs. Keith brings a tremendous work ethic and competitive edge every night and will be an instant crowd favorite."

Bushey, a 5'11'', 185-pound forward out of Ignace, Ontario, Canada, also played four years at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. For his career at the school, Bushey tallied 45 goals, 67 assists, 112 points, and 142 penalty minutes in 133 games played.

"I'm excited to come and play with guys that also went to the University of Alabama-Huntsville." Bushey said, "It makes the transition much easier."

"After talking to several coaches in the CHA Division I conference, the best way they could describe him was that he (Bushey) is a player you hate to play against but one that you'd love to have on your team." Ferras said, "With his skating ability and tenacity, he will be able to create chances for himself and his linemates in our small barn in Amarillo."

"The success that the Gorillas have had in the CHL has come from bringing in character players." Ferras added, "There's no better example of this than the success we've had with players from the University of Alabama-Huntsville."

Season tickets and corporate partnerships for the 2005-06 season are now available. Contact the Amarillo Gorillas office at (806) 242-PUCK (7825) for more information.
