Gorillas Post Second Straight Shutout

November 30, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Henry Kuster's netted the game winning goal in a shootout to power the Amarillo Gorillas to a 3-2 win over the Lubbock Cotton Kings on Friday night at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center.

It was the annual Run From Your Relatives Night as more than 4,200 fans an exciting and emotional game. The fans were screaming and shouting from the opening whistle and were definitely pleased from the outcome.

Lubbock led 1-0 after 20 minutes before the Gorillas tied the game up early in the second period on a goal by Brian Pellerin from Henry Kuster and Ben Maidment.

The Gorillas then took a 2-1 advantage in the third period when Darren Curry followed up a loose rebound and found the back of the net from Dorian Anneck and Chris Robertson.

The Cotton Kings tied the game up in the final two minutes to set the stage for overtime and then the shootout. Chris Robertson and Dorian Anneck potted pretty goals for the Gorillas as they made Lubbock goaltender Mike Brusseau seem a bit foolish on great moves.

Henry Kuster was the final shooter for the Gorillas and he made no mistake in scoring to give his team the win.

Goaltender Steve DeBus notched his sixth win of the season and looked solid, making some outstanding stops all night long. He was square to the shooter and didn't let the Cotton Kings have second shots at rebounds.

There were a total of five fights during the game including a couple of good ones involving rookie Neil Posillico and then later Scott Wray.

The Amarillo Gorillas now have a record of 8-7 and return to action tonight (Saturday) when they take on the New Mexico Scorpions at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque. The game can be heard live on 1440 Am The Score beginning at 7:40 pm local time.

The Gorillas are back on home ice next Saturday night when they host the Austin Ice Bats at The Jungle at 7 p.m. It is Texas Lottery night and fans have a chance to win big bucks with scratch and win tickets.
