Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas continued their dominant play in the Central Hockey League and remain one point out of first place in the Southwest Division and tied for second place overall in the Southern Conference.

The Gorillas are the second hottest team in the CHL with five consecutive wins and six victories in their last seven starts. The only other team hotter in the league is the Colorado Eagles which have won seven games in a row.

Joe Ferras' charges now have 17 wins this season with 13 of them coming since November 27. One area that continues to be a strong point for the club is penalty killing where they have given up just one power play goal in their last 420 minutes of hockey and currently sit fourth in that category overall.

Two other areas of significance for the Gorillas are their play when leading after 40 minutes where they are 8-0-3 and in one-goal-games where they are 11-3-4. Tyler Butler leads all defenseman in the CHL with 130 shots, while goaltender Shawn Degagne has climbed into fourth in wins with 15.

The Amarillo Gorillas will try to extend their winning streak with two more games this week. On Friday night, the Gorillas host the Oklahoma City Blazers at 7 p.m. at the Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. It's the one and only appearance by the Blazers in Amarillo this season.

It's ladies night and the first 500 ladies will get something special at the door courtesy of Mary Kay Cosmetics, Avon and Freeman's Flowers.

Gorillas tickets can be purchased at the Gorillas hockey office 1934 Civic Circle; Civic Center Box Office and at Panhandle Ticket Outlets including Randy's Music Mart, the WT Event Center in Canyon and United Supermarkets. Fans can charge by phone 378-3096 or 242-7825.

On Saturday night, Amarillo travels to New Mexico to face the Scorpions at 7 p.m. (local time) (8p.m. central time.) at Tingley Coliseum. Fans can tune into the game live on 1440 AM The Score, beginning with the Farmer's Insurance Group Warm Up Show at 7:40 p.m. Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Presented by Bank of America follows at 8 p.m.
