Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 9/16/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas announced Tuesday that they have acquired and signed Michael George, whose rights were previously controlled by the Rapid City Rush.
George, a 6'0", 190-pound winger, played three junior seasons with the Battlefords North Stars in the SJHL from 2003-2006. Twice during his junior career, he scored over a point-per-game, tallying 68 points in 2004-05 and 74 points in 2005-06.
The Battleford, Saskatoon native spent a portion of 2006-07 in the LNAH, a Quebec-based semi-pro league, scoring a point per game in nine contests with Trois Rivieres. George, who turned 23 in March, will have an opportunity to spend his first season as a professional with the Gorillas.
"Going into his rookie season, (George) is a young player looking to make an impact in training camp," said Gorillas Head Coach Tom Coolen. "He had an outstanding junior career in the Saskatoon league that's produced numerous NHL players. We hope he can bring that same scoring touch to Amarillo this season."
George was acquired from Rapid City for the rights to forward Matt Miller. The rookie is the 13th player to be signed by the Gorillas for the 2008-09 season, joining seven other forwards on the Gorillas training camp roster.
Enjoy all the benefits of being an Amarillo Gorillas season ticket holder, including pregame meetings with Coach Coolen and one-of-a-kind access to special events!
