Gorillas 3-game winning streak snapped by Indy

December 14, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Indianapolis did everything in threes last night. Three goals in the first 16 minutes of the game, three power play goals and won by two over the Gorillas 5-3 in Central Hockey League action at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Gorillas did rally well though after falling behind early 3-0.

It appeared the Gorillas had scored early in the first period, when Dave Rattray put the puck into the open net, but after consulting with the linesmen he later waived off the goal. It is unsure why the official did not stick with his original call of the play.

Joe Ferras' charges actually pulled to within a goal 3-2 early in the second period thanks to markers from Henry Kuster and Darren Curry.

But it seemed every time the gorillas would rally, Indianapolis would answer with one of their own to make it 4-2.

In the third period again the gorillas made it 4-3 when Dave Rattray scored on a funny bounce, but they all count but another power play goal proved to be enough to make it 5-3.

Henry Kuster also had two assists for the gorillas. Derek Hahn collected his fourth point in a gorillas uniform with an assist. Matt Brown also got his first professional point – which now each Gorillas' player excluding goalies each have at least one point. Ben Maidment and Ryan Shannon also notched assists.

Steve Debus took the loss in goal but you couldn't fault him on any of the goals as he was screened on a couple of them.

Goal scoring has appeared to have solved itself for Amarillo as for the second straight game the Gorillas score at least four goals.

The Amarillo Gorillas record falls now to 11-8 and continue to sit in third place in the Northern Conference's Northwest Division behind the Oklahoma City Blazers.
