
Gores Tosses Gem in Relief in AppleSox' Loss

Garrett Gores tossed 6.2 scoreless innings in relief but the Wenatchee AppleSox fell to the Kelowna Falcons, 4-2, on Thursday night at Elks Stadium.
Gores came on in relief with runners at second and third in the bottom of the first and the AppleSox trailing 4-0 and retired each of the next nine hitters in order before allowing his first baserunner. He struck out five, including two in the seventh when he stranded the bases loaded.
The AppleSox scored twice in the fifth inning but stranded 11 men on the base paths. It marked the third straight game that the AppleSox left double-digit runners on the base paths. They scored five runs in the three games against the Falcons despite entering Thursday's game with the third-most runs scored in the West Coast League.
Joichiro Oyama picked up a pair of hits and stole three bases. He leads the West Coast League with 22 stolen bases. Oyama and Corey Jarrell scored in the fifth when Jarrell struck out with two outs but reached first base on a passed ball. Jarrell advanced to to third on a single by Oyama, who moved to second on the throw to third. Michael Davinni draw a walk but a passed ball scored Jarrell and Oyama.
Now the AppleSox continue their road trip by facing the Nanaimo NightOwls on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. at Serauxmen Stadium. Brewster native Quincy Vassar will start on the bump for the AppleSox.
