June 27, 2019 - California League (CalL1)
Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Lake Elsinore Storm All-Star LHP MacKenzie Gore, who made his 14th California League start on Wednesday at The Diamond, improved to 7-1/1.12 ERA as the Padres' affiliate shut out the Dodgers' affiliate, Rancho Cucamonga, 5-0 to remain tied for first in the South Division with a 5-2 record.
The 20-year-old Gore matched a season-best with 6.2 innings pitched while also throwing a season-high 100 pitches in the 11:00 AM start. The Whiteville, North Carolina native found his rhythm after the first three batters reached safely, as he beaned the Quakes' leadoff hitter on the first pitch of the game followed by a walk and an infield single that loaded the bases. The dominant southpaw, however, then struck out the side to get out of the inning unscathed.
Gore allowed a single to begin the second inning but then retired 15 consecutive batters before giving up a one-out base hit in the top of the seventh. His 100th pitch came on a strikeout, one of nine Ks on the day, the fifth game this season he's struck out nine or more.
The Storm supported Gore with an RBI single from CF Jeisson Rosario in the third inning, an Eguy Rosario two-run inside-the-park home run in the fourth, a Luis Campusano RBI double in the fifth and an Esteury Ruiz RBI single in the sixth as Lake Elsinore took two of three from Rancho Cucamonga.
RHP Jordan Guerrero was impressive in relief, setting down seven out of eight hitters, as the Quakes ended the game with only two hits in their final 25 at bats.
The Storm share first place with Lancaster in the South Division with a 5-2 record in the second half and an overall mark of 40-35, third best in the California League.
