
Gonzalez Promoted To Triple-A

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Class AA Affiliate of the N.Y. Yankees, announced today that SS Alberto Gonzalez has been promoted to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A), and INF Reegie Corona has been transferred from Tampa (High-A) to the Thunder
Gonzalez returns to Scranton where he started the 2007. He was acquired in November, 2006 from the Arizona Diamondbacks organization as part of the Randy Johnson trade. The 23-year old native of Maracaibo, VZ batted .220 for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 72 games at the start of the 2007 season, but was transferred to Trenton on June 30th. In 28 games with the Thunder, Gonzalez batted .330 with 16 RBI. He produced a .500 BA (25 x 50) in 13 games between July 9th and 23rd.
Corona was signed by the N.Y. Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2003. He is in his 4th pro season and won't turn 21 until November 7th. Corona has spent the entire 2007 season with Tampa (A) of the Florida State League with a .271 BA, 3 HR, 37 RBI and 22 SB. In 2006, Corona posted a .292 BA, 3 HR, 40 RBI for Charleston in 96 games and a .297 BA, HR, 7 RBI for Tampa in nine games.
Trenton begins a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets in Binghamton, NY on Tuesday. Alan Horne (9-3, 2.36) starts for Trenton against the Mets' Marcos Carvajal (5-7, 4.09) The Thunder return home to host the Bowie Baysox, the Class AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, on Friday, August 3rd.
