Baysox Duo Sweeps Eastern League Weekly Awards

(PORTLAND, ME) - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending July 29th:

Bowie Baysox first baseman Luis Antonio Jimenez has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending July 29th. The 25-year old had an excellent week for the Baysox, batting .429 (12-for-28) with two doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, five runs scored, one walk and a .750 slugging percentage in seven games. Jimenez, a native of Bobure, Venezuela, had at least one hit in each of the games he played in last week and drove in at least one run in six out of seven games while leading the Baysox to a 7-0 record. In 62 games for the Baysox this season the 6'4", 205 lb. slugger is hitting .326 with 14 homers and 46 RBI.

Luis, who hit .276 with 17 home runs and 70 RBI in 115 games for the Portland Sea Dogs last season, was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a minor league free agent on May 14, 2007 and assigned to Bowie after starting the year with the Pawtucket Red Sox of the Triple-A International League.
