Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY - Canadian National Team midfielder and National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) veteran Desiree 'The Destroyer' Scott has signed a new contract with the Kansas City Current through the 2022 season.
"Desi is one of the toughest and savviest players in the league," said general manager Camille Levin. "Her sustained greatness throughout her storied career is a testament to her commitment to our game and the clubs she represents. She's an incredible teammate who brings a championship mindset every time she steps on the pitch. We're thrilled to have her back in Kansas City."
"A leader on and off the pitch, Desi represents greatness," said co-owner Chris Long. "We are thrilled to re-sign such a legendary soccer player who makes everyone around her better."
Scott began her international career with Canada at the Under-16 and Under-19 levels before receiving her first senior level call-ups at the 2010 Cyprus Cup and 2011 FIFA World Cup. The Winnipeg, Ontario native has 171 caps for the Canadian National Team.
Named one of Canada's Top 30 Women's Footballers during Canada Soccer's Centennial Celebration in 2012, 'The Destroyer' is one of the most decorated players in Canadian history. She is one of three players to win medals at three consecutive Olympic games, earning bronze medals at the 2012 and 2016 games and a gold medal in 2020. Scott has also represented Canada in three consecutive World Cups (2011, 2015, 2019).
One of the NWSL's original stars, Scott was allocated to FC Kansas City in 2013 and played every minute of the 20 games in which she appeared. After taking a two-year break to play for Notts County in the English Women's Super League, the veteran midfielder returned to the NWSL and FC Kansas City in 2016. In six NWSL seasons with FC Kansas City, the Utah Royals and now the KC Current, Scott has 105 appearances and 9,111 minutes played.
"I am beyond excited to take on another season with the KC Current," said Scott. "I think we only scratched the surface with what we are capable of as a team last season! As we continue to build this club both on and off the field, I am really pumped to be a part of what is to come!"
