Brooklyn Aviators News Release
Brooklyn, NY - John Goffredo netted the game winning goal just 25 seconds into overtime to extend the Aviators winning streak to seven games, as New York skated past the Danbury Whalers 3-2 on Friday night in Federal Hockey League action.
Goffredo put home the one timer in the slot from Matt Puntureri to send the New York bench and fans into a craze. With the win, the A's move to 7-0 at home against the Whalers, and 9-4 in the season series.
Puntureri picked up his fourth goal in two games, after his 22nd tally of the year came at the 10:10 mark of the opening frame. The assistant captain was camped out in front of Whalers' net minder Peter Skoggard, and put home the loose puck to give New York the 1-0 lead.
Danbury tied the game up on a power play marker in the middle frame, as Steve McClellan ripped a wrister from the high slot over A' goaltender Kevin Druce. McClellan's sixth goal of the year came exactly one minute into their man advantage at the 3:32mark. However, the A's would regain their one goal lead back after Jesse Felten found the back of the net with 4:48 remaining in the second. Felten registered his seventh goal in three games with the tally, which helped New York skate into the second intermission with a 2-1 edge.
Seifert netted the equalizer in the third frame, however it wasn't enough as New York skated to the victory in the extra session.
Druce picks up his 14th win of the season after putting aside 31 shots, while Skoggard is nabbed with the overtime loss making 30 saves.
The A's move to 18-12-2 on the campaign and Danbury falls to 15-14-4.
The Aviators wrap up their three game homestand, as they welcome in the new Cape Cod Barons at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.
