Brooklyn Aviators News Release

BROOKLYN, NY - JAN, 21, 2011 -- New York Aviators forward, Mike Thomson, the team's second leading scorer, was called up today to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. In 27 games the 6-foot 185-lb Thomson has netted 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points. His +21 rating is tied for the FHL league lead.

Thomson is the second Aviators player to be called up to the ECHL in the past week. Defenseman David Inman joined the Elmira Jackals on Jan. 13.

Prior to joining the Aviators, Thomson played for the West Michigan Blizzard of the AAHL, the Flint Generals of the IHL and the Brooklyn Aces of the EPHL. The 26-year-old native of La Habra, CA, played collegiately at SUNY-Plattsburgh (NCAA Division 3) and scored 26 goals and 58 career points.

"We congratulate Mike on being the first A's player to get the call to Wheeling," said Aviators Coach Rob Miller. "He has worked extremely hard and performed well all seasonso it's not a surprise that his play was noticed. Although we will miss him, we are confident that we have the scoring depth to make up for this loss."

The Nailers are a part of the ECHL, which is the premier Double A League in pro hockey. They are currently in first place in the North Division in the Eastern Conference. The Nailers are affiliated with both the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Montreal Canadians of the NHL and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL.

The Aviators are in third place in the FHL and are riding a six game winning streak, including wins this past weekend over the top two teams in the League. Their 12-1-1 record at home is the best in the League. They have a pair of home games this weekend -- Friday, Jan 21 at 7:05 p.m. versus Danbury; and Saturday Jan 22 at 7:30 p.m. against Cape Cod. Tickets are still available by visiting www.newyorkaviators.com or by calling 718-758-7580.
