
Goepfert Goes to Europe; O'Brien Returns

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that goaltender Bobby Goepfert has elected to leave the Stingrays to play in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga for Red Bulls Salzburg. The Stingrays have suspended Goepfert to protect his ECHL playing rights. In other news, forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien returns from the Iowa Chops of the American Hockey League.
Goepfert, 25, has split time this year between the Stingrays and the Hershey Bears and Portland Pirates of the AHL. With the Rays, the Kings Park, NY native was 7-2-4 with a .937 save percentage and a 1.81 goals-against average. The netminder also ranked second in the league in both save percentage and goals-against average and was third with three shutouts. In the AHL, Goepfert was a combined 1-1-1- with a .892 save percentage and 2.71 goals-against average in two games with Hershey and one game in Portland.
O'Brien returns to the Rays after playing five games in the AHL, recording a point on an assist. The Nicolet, PQ native is fourth on the Stingrays with 28 points (9g-19a) in 34 games and his 19 assists ranks second behind Travis Morin. O'Brien returns in time for the Stingrays road trip to Charlotte and Mississippi this weekend.
