
Goaltender Troy Passingham Named Windsor Spitfires Player Of The Week

(Windsor) Spitfires' rookie goaltender Troy Passingham is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the Spitfires coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, December 13th. In three starts last week, Passingham led the CHL's number one ranked team to a 2-1 record, as he posted a 2.32 goals against average and a.913 save percentage. Overall, this is Passingham's team leading fourth Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week award this season and he was also selected as the OHL's Player of the Week and CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 18, 2009.
On Thursday, Passingham stopped 23 of 24 shots in Windsor's 3-1 victory over the Erie Otters at the WFCU Centre. The following night, he stopped 21 of 23 shots and four of five shooters in the Spitfires' 3-2 shootout victory on the road against the CHL's sixth ranked Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. On Sunday, Passingham stopped 29 of 33 shots as Windsor suffered its first regulation time loss in more than two months to the Kitchener Rangers by a count of 5-2 at the WFCU Centre.
The 19 year-old native of Mississauga, ON is currently ranked first amongst goaltenders in the OHL with 25 wins, and he is also tied for second in the league with three shutouts and is ranked third in the OHL for goals against average at 2.44. Passingham is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
The defending 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup and OHL Champions will face off against the London Knights at the WFCU Centre on Thursday, December 17th. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Prior to the commencement of the game, the Spitfires will be conducting a "We Can, We Care Canned Food Drive Campaign" to support local food banks for the holiday season. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game. The city wide food drive is presented courtesy of the Rose City/Mayflower Moving Company, the Windsor and Essex County Rotary Clubs and the Greater Essex County District School Board.
