Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (August 18, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced that they have signed goaltender Michel Robinson. Per club policy no contract terms were announced.

Robinson, who turns 28 next month, posted a 3.81 goals against average and a .908 save percentage in 43 games last season while playing in England for the Newcastle Vipers of the Elite Ice Hockey League.

"In order to be successful, we will need good goaltending. Michel has displayed that ability in the past, and along with his experience at all levels, we look to him to be solid between the pipes this season," said Mallards Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "In addition, his familiarity with AA, having had success in the past- particularly a few years back in Rockford- will bode well for us."

Last season was Robinson's second in a row in the EIHL. The Montreal native split the 2008-09 campaign between the Edinburgh Capitals and Nottingham Panthers. Robinson enjoyed a strong run after joining the Panthers midway through the season, turning in a 2.38 goals against average and .920 save percentage in 32 games with Nottingham.

Now entering his eighth professional season, Robinson last played in North America in 2007-08, a campaign that saw him spend time with both the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors and St. Hyacinthe Top Design of the Quebec-based North American Hockey League. He first played in Europe in 2006-07 when he toiled in Italy for Ritten Renon.

The 6' 1", 205-pound Robinson competed against the Mallards while playing the bulk of the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons with the United Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs. He helped the IceHogs to the UHL's Western Division title in his second year with the club. Rockford topped 100 points in each of his two United League campaigns. Robinson also enjoyed considerable personal success while an IceHog. In 2004-05 he went 33-22-9 in 66 games with seven shutouts to establish single season career highs for wins and appearances as well as shutouts. The following year he established career bests in both goals against average (2.37) and save percentage (.919). Robinson also played three games in the American League with the Milwaukee Admirals over the course of the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons.

Robinson broke into professional hockey with the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL in 2003-04, posting a solid .907 save percentage in 44 games despite playing for a club that finished in last place in its division.

Robinson spent two-plus seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Shawinigan Cataractes before turning pro.

Robinson joins Obi Aduba, Nick DeCroo, Jason Dolgy, Mark Ehl, Tyler Kindle, Jason Kostadine, Patrik Levesque, Shane Lovdahl, Brandon Marino, Darren McMillan, Omar Pacha, Ryan Palmer and Zach Pearson to bring the number of players on the Mallards' preseason roster to 14.

The Mallards will open their first CHL season on home ice on Saturday night, October 16, at 7:05 p.m. against the Odessa Jackalopes. Mallards 2010-11 ticket packages are now available to meet any budget or schedule. For more information on ticket packages for the upcoming season, contact the Mallards at (309) 277-1364. Single game seats will go on sale in the fall on a date to be announced.
