Kansas City Comets News Release

The Comets have announced today the re-signing of goalkeeper Boris Pardo through the 2012-2013 season, pending league approval. As coach Kim Roentved continues to piece together what he feels is a championship caliber team, he is excited to have Pardo back. "We are doing something special here. Boris is a big part of that. His leadership in the locker room is part of what makes this team so unique and what will help us hopefully bring home the big trophy at the end of the year."

Born in Hillside, New Jersey Pardo, played college soccer at Seton Hall University from 2002 to 2005, where he set the school record for most shutouts (16), and was named 2006 Big East Goalkeeper of the Year. The son of Chilean parents, he began his professional playing career in Chile, spending time with Universidad de Chile and Palestino, both clubs in Santiago that play in the Chilean Primera Division. After spending time playing in Chile, Pardo signed a contract with the MLS to be part of the league-wide goalkeeper pool in 2007. Pardo was signed to a full-time contract by the Kansas City Wizards in 2008, and played extensively for them in the MLS Reserve Division. Last season Pardo was valuable as the backup to Danny Waltman. He started two games and was a pivotal part of the 21-20 comeback victory against the Omaha Vipers, turning in 16 big saves (1/23/11).

NEW MEDICAL PARTNERSHIP: The Comets are also excited to announce a new joint venture with Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. KCUMB agreed to a three year agreement to be the medical provider to the Comets for everything from General Practitioners to Orthopedics. Brian Budzinski, Comets President, says "Our guys play hard and no matter how hard we try to prevent it, there are going to be some bumps and bruises along the way. I'm delighted to know that when that happens, the staff at KCUMB will be there to get them back to playing shape as quickly as possible."

"Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences is pleased to partner with the Missouri Comets and to serve as team physicians this season," said John Dougherty, D.O., associate dean and professor of sports medicine. "KCUMB has a strong sports medicine heritage, and we look forward to being even a small part in the Comets drive to win the MISL championship. We are equally excited for the opportunity to provide clinical experiences for KCUMB osteopathic medical students and residents."

The Comets will also be assisting KCUMB in their efforts to reach out to Kansas City area youth through our Comets Youth Soccer Camp programs. This is a great opportunity for both companies to work together, keeping Comets players healthy and providing KCUMB residents a chance to work with professional athletes.

HOME SCHEDULE CHANGE: The MISL announced a revised schedule today for the 2011-2012 season. The Comets home game originally scheduled for January 27, 2012 has been rescheduled for Wednesday January 25, 2012 at 7:35pm. The Comets will be passing out a Gino Schiraldi bobblehead to the first 3,000 people in attendance at that game.
