Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves lost game two of their four game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats 8-1 Saturday night in front of a crowd of 4,745 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
Savannah struck first in the third inning as Ofilio Castro stepped to the plate and singled up the middle, and Edgardo Baez followed soon after with a walk. Baez and Castro both sprinted home as Leonard Davis doubled to centerfield and gave the Gnats a 2-0 advantage. The Braves briefly tightened the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Jamie Romak drew a leadoff walk and later scored as Cody Clark blooped a single into right field, but it was as close as the Braves would get. The Sand Gnats poured on six more runs before the game was through, highlighted by a two RBI triple from Tim Pahuta, as the Gnats got their revenge on the Rome Braves 8-1.
Rome starter Jeff Lyman (6-6) took the loss for the Braves after throwing 4.1 innings and giving up four earned runs. Reliever Brett Nyquist (6-3) recorded the win for Savannah.
Game three of the four game series between Savannah and Rome begins tomorrow at 2pm at State Mutual Stadium. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log on to www.romebraves.com.
