Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
Las Vegas January 10, 2007- With the Gladiators 2007 season right around the corner and the completion of a successful three-day mini-camp quarterbacks, Shaun King, Andy Hall and Brian Jones proved they have what it takes to lead this team.
Shaun King (6"1, 228) enters his first season in the Arena Football League, after spending seven years in the NFL, including two seasons as the starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. King owns a 14-8 record as a starting quarterback in the NFL. King attended college at Tulane University where he set an NCAA record for passing efficiency in 1998 and became the first player in NCAA history to ever pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game vs. Army on November 14, 1998.
"I was happy with Shaun's progression during mini-camp" said Head Coach Danton Barto. "He made a lot of strides from the first practice to the last. Shaun showed he has the tools to play this game. We still have a lot of work to do, but he showed he has the mental and physical tools. He reminded me a lot of Cleo Lemon from the Miami Dolphins who I coached before".
Brian Jones (6"2, 205) Jones has spent most of his career with the Memphis Xplorers of the af2 where he was their starting QB. Jones spent time with the Gladiators in camp just prior to the 2006 season, but will be entering his first season in the AFL in 2007. He led the Xplorers to the af2 ArenaCup title in 2005, completing 245 of 388 attempts (63.1%) for 3,384 yards, 69 TD and just 7 interceptions, leading the af2 with a 123.11 passer rating. He attended college at Toledo where in 2002 he passed for 3446 yard (297 for 423), 23 TD and 9 INT.
"Jones really shined in mini-camp" said Coach Barto. "He should be ahead of the other quarterbacks because he knows the system and as played arena football. He proved that he can lead this team."
Andy Hall (6"1, 218) was a 6th round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004. He spent time on both the active and practice roster with Philadelphia and will be entering his first season in the Arena Football League. Hall attended University of Delaware where in 2004 he earned the Tri-state college player of the year and became the first quarterback drafted from Delaware since Rich Gannon in 1987. He led Delaware to the NCAA Division I-AA title as a senior in 2003, completing 62 percent of his passes for 2,764 yards and 25 TDs and rushing 163 times for 710 yards and eight more scores
"He showed me why he was a draft pick of the Eagles. He really did a nice job in mini-camp. I am really excited to see what happens with Andy when we go live in training camp" Barto remarked.
Training camp begins February 4th and finishes on the 26th. Camp schedule will be released close to the first day of camp and practices are open to the public.
The Gladiators will kickoff their 5th season on the road March 4th against the Austin Wranglers at 1pm PT. Season tickets for the 2007 Las Vegas Gladiators home schedule are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Las Vegas Gladiators office at 702-731-4977.
